I'm not sure Mrs. Mando is too pleased with you right now. All of this talk has me looking again. I dropped the hint last night that I was looking at the CDL and XCR variants of the 700.

She promptly reminded me of the new guitar and with the very unambiguous "look" that I have come to instantly recognize after 26 years I immediately changed the subject.

Remington makes superb products - I have an 1100 3" 12 gauge with a 30" vent ribbed steel shot goose barrel and an 870 ATAC-S for Home defense crowd thinning.

Growing up on the East coast we never had much of a need for a real long gun for the hunting we did - waterfowl, quail, dove, pheasant, small upland game - and shotguns were what we used most. Now that we are out in a more rural area of Va Beach a long gun (that I can actually use) is in order. The BMG is a great weapon, but I just haven't had much of a need for a 2000 meter "pink mist" shot.

Any experience with Marlins? I have a friend who grew up in Oregon and swears by his .444. But again, who needs 1.5 tons of muzzle energy?

Who "wants" 1.5 tons is a completely different question.

My son, the Ranger currently on his second tour in Iraq, is due to come home this summer and is lined up for Sniper School at Benning. I'm so freakin' jealous. Well, if you can't live vicariously through your kids, what's the point of having them?

jk of course.

SDH -

Glad to hear he's coming home and has a sweet set of orders he wants.

Make sure to thank him for his service for me.

I have often told him that there is a group of cyber-freaks who've more than once expressed their gratitude and support for his service. While he may not understand much about our little collective here, he certainly appreciates the kind thoughts.

He is still mulling over going for the "Tower of Power" (HALO and Scuba School along with Sniper School). I still can't get over the transformation in that kid. He went from a typical slacker teenager to an incredible young man in just a few years. It was as if a light switch was turned on during basic. Whenever he talks about whether ot not he will make the Army his career, I tell him to really think about it and that I can count on one hand the number of people I know who can say they truly love their job.

That's great SDH. That 'light switch' comment gives me hope for my two teens who are quite slackerish.
